Take part in the beautiful serenity of The Day of Rest

  • “One of the best experiences I get from MAJOR Shabbatons is hearing inspiring ideas from Rabbi Meister and other speakers that I’m able to take with me and use in my day-to-day life. Often, I leave the Shabbatons feeling more inspired to live a meaningful life thanks to ideas I learn from them. Plus, having a break from work and school allows me to refocus on being closer to Hashem (G-d).”

FAQS

  •  A Shabbaton is an opportunity to experience a Shabbat with a large group of your peers.  It typically includes special programming and large, fun meals.

  • Shabbat happens every week.  But a Shabbaton has much more fun and activities planned!

  • No.  Even if your Hebrew is non-existent, you’ll be fine.

  • Shabbat is a special day, and our clothes should reflect that specialness.

    • Guys generally wear dress pants, a button down shirt, a jacket or sweater.  Some even wear a suit.  But you can wear whatever you want… no shorts please.

    • Girls should wear a skirt that covers their knees and a shirt that covers their chest up to the collarbone and elbows and everything in between.

Shabbat is a special day, and by dressing better than usual, you and those around you will be able to feel the mood of the special occasion

  • Bring sleeping clothes and clothes for the next day.

Bring any medications you may need.

All food is provided on the Shabbaton.

You can also ask us for anything you may have forgotten.

A Kipah, if you want to wear one.
    MAJOR has complimentary Kipahs, too!

  • Shabbat begins on Friday night, a few minutes before sunset.   It ends on Saturday night, about an hour after sunset.

  • Ask your hosts, the Rabbi, or see the schedule.

  • Whatever feels comfortable for you.  You can settle in.  You can take a power nap.  You can schmooze with the other guests.  If you are really courageous, you can offer to help.  You could lend a hand, or play with the kids or read books with them.

  • If you were planning on not checking your phone on Shabbat, prepare for it!   You should do your last checking before Shabbat, so you can enjoy letting go. (It’s so peaceful!)

You should call/text your relatives and friends that would worry if you wouldn’t respond to them immediately.  Tell them that you’ll be taking a technology break so they won’t worry.

  • MAJOR serves college students and young professionals with varied Jewish backgrounds.  Most MAJOR participants never “kept” a shabbat.  Whether it's your first Shabbat or you've experienced dozens of Shabbats, you will always find a MAJOR Shabbaton interesting, fun and meaningful.

  • You are always welcomed!  It is proper to respect our hosts and follow their Shabbat guidelines.  Yet, no one will be offended if these guidelines are not followed in the privacy of your guest rooms.

  • Bring yourself!  Your friendliness and smile are truly a gift to us.
